Choosing the right diet for dogs with allergies can be a real headache. There are many allergy-friendly foods available, ranging from diets with only a handful of ingredients to those with novel sources of protein to diets with a hydrolysed protein source.
We met Dr Jacques Fontaine, a specialist in veterinary dermatology, and asked him some questions to clarify the choices available.
----------

Among the diagnostic means proposed for food allergies, do blood tests have their place ❓
For dogs with allergies (atopic dermatitis, food allergy), Hill's recommends starting with Hill's Prescription Diet Derm Complete, with chicken egg as a novel animal protein source, so preventing 96% of food allergies. Should an owner whose dog is allergic to chicken be concerned about a cross-reaction with the egg in Derm Complete ❓
Would a practitioner's approach to a dog with pruritus be different from that of a specialist ❓
What about allergies in growing dogs? Would you recommend a Derm Complete Puppy food ❓
